Calabogie Trip

This year our Tamarack class went on a ski trip to Calabogie. We had a funny ride up hearing all the people talk about their terrible skiing skills. When we arrived at Calabogie the weather was great and everybody was ready to get on the hill. But before we were able to go up the lift we all had to pass a short test to prove to the instructor that you were able to ski without hurting yourself or others. From then the class split up and went there separate ways. The class met up for lunch at the “LADGE” and talked about their experiences and thus far. One group tried to learn how to snowboard and could barely sit down because their tailbones were so badly bruised. Another group went up a giant rock and the only way down was to jump 10 feet, so they did and all wiped out hardcore. This trip was a good first step to get everybody to meet and learn more about the variety of personalities in the class.

Winter Outing Summary

This year the Tamarack winter camping trip took them to a small cabin on Smith Lake. This trip was our introduction to Tamarack. We all learned some of the more proper ways of camping and getting something completed. On day 1 the class had a short walk into the camp from there we began to set up. We gathered snow into a pile and when everybody was done we went for a short hike into neighboring Perch Lake. We returned and began to dig out our quinces. Day 2 the class went out to Perch Lake where we began our project which was plane table mapping of the Lake . This project proved to be more difficult then expected so the groups teamed up to finish properly. Day 3 was a all day hike that had everything from giant hills to swampy marshes. The hike had great views and turned out to be a great walk. Day 4 we returned to Perch Lake to find the depth of the water at different locations and also to find out what was actually on the bottom of the lake. This would complete our map of Perch Lake. Day 5 was the final day in which we packed up, cleaned up, and walked out.

Backpacking Summary

The hiking trip was a little delayed becasue Mr. Steer was suffering the flu pretty bad. But fortunately D. Steer came through in the clutch and we went out and did the whole trail thingy in a day less. This trip was a huge challenge for some people whether it was just meeting the physical demands of the trip, packing or eating right, everyone had their ups and downs. We covered some serious K’s and all got stronger. Harness was the bomb and we all got a short health class lesson from Jen. Steer caught up to us on the last day and we had our big fire. We all told steer our funny stories about the trip and their were alot of laughs. When we got to the end we were all happy to see our parents waiting, with donughts.
