With some help from comments in our guest book and emails we realized that the web site needed a makeover (or a complete do-over!). We were lucky to have Andrea Ghent (a professional web designer and TAMARACK alumni) to help us. She started us off from the beginning of a professional web site design project - we divided into committees: designers, documenters, analyzers, and coders. Then we discussed who the target audience is, what do they want from the site, what disabilities might they have and what we could do to accommodate these issues. From there we decided what sort of information we wanted to include on this site. Next we decided on the layout of the site - it was pretty much open, we could do anything we wanted, but we decided on the simple left menu, with a header and footer. Our designers then went to work choosing the colour scheme and overall design of the site, while the rest of us decided on the pages that we'd have and what would be on these pages. The coders then started building the framework for the site - the general layout, sans content and design. Once the design was chosen it was incorporated into the frame work and content was added to the site. This project got interrupted a lot with trips, the magazine and our lives outside of class, but as you can see it's complete - but never fully done as each year will have a new page and magazine and new schedule. Hopefully they can maintain the site and use it to it's full potential. |
